(ONLINE) dyeing with onions

Plain old onion skins can make a rainbow of colors, from rich chocolatey browns, copper oranges, goldenrod yellow, and a range of sumptuous greens. Come learn about natural dyeing in your own home, and make two colors of dye to dye some goodies. THIS IS A BRING-YOUR-OWN-TOOLS EVENT! Or buy a kit from me for $20 plus shipping.

YOU MUST PROVIDE:
-30g onion skins, any color
-1 tsp iron mordant (ferrous sulfate), or a handful of rusty nails would do
-At least two small items made of animal fiber (wool, silk, etc.) to dye: think hankerchief or mini-skein of wool

You’ll also need:
-A pot and a place to bring it to a boil
-A pair of tongs
-A sink with running water


Forage and dye with mushrooms

Dec. 4th and 5th 2021

On the first day, we’ll get out into the woods and forage for edible and dye mushrooms, and we’ll end our day with a mushroom meal from the day’s finds. The second day, we’ll dye with mushrooms and you can take home your hand-dyed yarn and silk scarf.


Salve making

Nov. 14th 2021

Come learn how to turn herbs into salve! You’ll learn how to make oil infusions with an herb, make salve from your plant of choice (calendula, St. John’s wort, or chickweed), and take home your salve. This event is held indoors at Mariposa Institute in Ukiah, CA. All participants must be vaccinated and masked.
